US-based food and beverage major Mondel?z International has committed to offering all of its products across the globe with recyclable packaging by 2025.

The company’s latest move is part of its strategy for a circular packaging economy and plans to focus on its zero-net waste packaging goal.

As part of the initiative, the company will establish partnerships to collect and recycle packaging across all its markets globally.

Mondel?z International Research, Development, Quality and Innovation executive vice-president Rob Hargrove said: “As the global snacking leader, we’re committing to using sustainably sourced materials and recyclable packaging as part of our active contribution to reduce packaging waste and establish a circular economy for packaging.

“Plastic waste and its impact on the planet is a broad, systemic issue that our consumers care deeply about, and which requires a holistic response.“We can help to develop practical solutions that result in a positive environmental impact.”

“Together with partners from across the industry, as well as public and private entities, we can help to develop practical solutions that result in a positive environmental impact.”

The company will also offer design guidelines to packaging developers, set priorities and identify materials to use or avoid across its packaging range.

It will also sustainably source all paper-based packaging by 2020.

Mondel?z also plans to support industry coalitions to improve recycling rates. It has eliminated 53.5 million kilograms of packaging material globally since 2013 and aims to make it 65 million by 2020.

The company will also offer recycling information to customers by 2025, enabling them to recycle or re-use product packs through local recycling systems.
