Lush commits to using ocean plastics packaging

Lush, the high street toiletries retailer, has committed to using ocean plastics in its packaging.

× Lush

The company has partnered with Canada's first marine debris intake centre the Ocean Legacy Foundation to bring recycled marine plastics packaging into its stores.

Lush has set a target of 27 tonnes of rubbish to be recovered from the coasts of Vancouver, British Columbia, where the company's North American headquarters are located. The scheme is supported by the Urban Resource Group to help convert the marine plastics into pellets before reprocessing along with other post-consumer plastics to make bottles for Lush cosmetics.

Lush products wrapped in post-consumer plastics include Plum Rain shower gel, Whoosh shower jelly, Dirty Springwash shower gel and Charity Pot body lotion.

Ridding the ocean of waste plastics is a cause close to the British-founded company's heart. On World Oceans Day in June 2017, the company donated 100 per cent of sales of its Shark Fin soap to the Save the Sharks campaign which raise awareness about shark endangerment.
