BASF Aids to Reduce China’s White Pollution Threat with Biodegradable Courier Bags

Courier Bags Made of ecovioGUANGZHOU, China -- A new courier packaging bag made of the biodegradable polymer ecovio® will demonstrate how BASF is helping China to reduce the white pollution threat resulting from a surge in parcel deliveries.

Compostable Courier Bags Made of ecovio

  • The compostable courier bags are made of ecovio materials which demonstrate an excellent performance to meet customer requirements while providing an environmental-friendly solution.
  • BASF has been collaborating with the major downstream partners to explore the frontier of biodegradable courier bags.

Dr. Johannes Becker, Director of Global Marketing Biopolymers at BASF, said:
“Rapid industrialization, economic growth and increasing environmental awareness are driving demand for sustainable living in China. BASF is committed to helping the country meet these challenges through the use of such innovative and sustainable plastics solutions.”

BASF at CHINAPLAS 2017
At CHINAPLAS 2017, BASF also will present biodegradable mulch film made of ecovio. Unlike conventional plastic mulch film, this new biodegradable mulch film technology protects the soil from pollution, since the films can be plowed into the soil after harvest and will biodegrade there into CO2, water and biomass.

BASF’s certified compostable and biobased polymer ecovio is an essential part of a closed-loop system: cups, plates, cuttlery and other items made of or coated with ecovio can first be collected in certified compostable bags, also made of ecovio, and then sent to a composting facility where they will quickly and cost-effectively decompose into CO2, water and biomass. The resulting high-quality compost can then be used to improve the soil quality of farms in China.

About ecovio®

ecovio® is a high-quality and versatile biopolymer from BASF. The primary advantages: It's certified compostable and is partly biobased. The main areas of use for ecovio® are plastic films such as organic waste bags, dualuse bags (first for shopping, then for organic waste) or agricultural films. Furthermore, compostable packaging solutions such as paper-coating, shrink films, foam packaging and injection molding products can be produced with ecovio®.
